Welcome, how courageous of you to seek help!

For every addiction, whether it’s your own or that of a loved one, there comes a point when you can’t go on any longer. In many cases, it takes 6 to 8 years before people seek help. No matter how long it took you, you’re here now and that’s what counts!

As an expert by experience, I know the agony of addiction. The pain, sadness, and powerlessness that loved one’s experience. I use a combination of this experiential expertise and the necessary professional training to support people in freeing themselves from the consequences of addiction.

A caring and effective way to make an addict aware.

My view on addiction

Addiction is a chronic and progressive disease that cannot be cured, but you can learn to live with it. It starts innocently with experimentation and ends in obsessive-compulsive use and behavior. The addict loses control over his/her use and can no longer stop, even if they want to.

The effect of addiction

Dependence on a substance does not only affect the addict themselves. It also affects those around them. Addiction disrupts the family system and has a negative effect on all family members. I therefore refer to it as a family disease. The bonds between family members become unbalanced and, because everyone deals with the addict in their own way, accusations and arguments can easily arise.

Both family and loved ones are confronted with the pain, sadness, and misery that addiction brings in its destructive form. The feeling of powerlessness as you watch from the sidelines while a loved one destroys themselves is unbearable.

However, recovery is possible! I teach everyone involved how to deal with the consequences of addiction so that they can rebuild a healthy relationship with themselves and others.

My mission

I help both addicts and their loved ones to examine behavior and habits, to realize that behavioral change is possible and that entrenched patterns can be broken. In this way, I help addicts to reconnect with themselves, to rediscover their own strength, and to regain control of their own lives.

My mission is to help people face, understand, and accept addiction. Together, we look for the possible causes and unravel behaviors and habits. Where necessary, we make changes that help people free themselves from the consequences of their addiction. I help loved ones of people with an addiction to gain insight into what addiction is and how to deal with someone who is addicted. This gradually creates opportunities to increase mutual understanding and repair relationships.

Treatment through tailored guidance

Together, we look at what it takes to break free from the grip of addiction and explore the options for treatment. Connecting is central to this. Together we restore the connection with yourself and your loved ones through individual counseling, family counseling, and group sessions with loved ones.

Each program is designed to serve the loved ones (partners, parents, children) and consists of an average of 6 to 8 meetings of approximately 2 hours per session. The first 2 sessions take place with only the loved ones, so that we can get to know each other and gain insight into the family dynamics. Through them, we gain a more comprehensive picture of the addict and can establish a history of addiction. During the third session, an intervention meeting takes place with the addict and their loved ones. If necessary, this is followed by one or two more intervention meeting.

The remaining sessions focus on psychoeducation. We discuss all aspects of addiction, make the loved ones aware of behaviors and patterns, and discuss possible next steps. These may include options for freeing the addict from the consequences of addiction or admission options for treatment if the addict is willing.

Care4addictioN’s treatments fall under private addiction care and are not covered by health insurance.
